Delivering Blankets to Cancer Patients

Since 2016, Spangler Subaru has had an exclusive partnership with Conemaugh Health System and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as part of Subaru Loves to Care®. Each summer, we team up to spread hope and warmth to individuals battling cancer by wrapping them up in specialty made blankets. This year, the blankets fold up and store in a pouch that then creates a heart-shaped pillow for versatility, comfort, and convenience.

Cancer is a formidable disease, and it wreaks havoc on more than just the body. Treatments are long, difficult, and expensive, which means individuals who suffer from it are likely to miss long bouts of work, and this means disruptions in steady income streams. Children who are undergoing treatment will miss important development in their education and proper socialization which can further stunt their growth. If treatment comes with long hospital stays, a common occurrence, then those individuals also miss important time with their families.

Day in and day out, the fight against and the research to find a cure sucks up insurmountable resources, pushes doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals beyond their limits, and takes a toll on patients’ and their families’ mental hygiene. As a Subaru retailer, we know that our effect is limited, but if we can make one person’s day just a little brighter, her body a little warmer, and his hope a little higher, then our contribution means something. We have packed up another 80 blankets into a 2024 Subaru Ascent and delivered them to the Conemaugh Cancer Care Center, for a total of 720 blankets since the partnership began.
