Our Semi-Annual Adopt-A-Highway Clean Up
In April, during Subaru Loves the Earth, we made a commitment to help clean up our community. We did this by adopting a local stretch of roadway through Pennsylvania’s Adopt-a-Highway program. During that time we pledged to clean up a two mile stretch of Route 403, beginning at Shetler Memorials and going north to the Somerset County line. This area includes the roadside along Tire Hill and Greenhouse Park.
As part of our commitment, employees of Spangler Subaru organize at least twice a year, don safety vests, and use trash pokers to pick up all the litter left along this stretch of road. We continued that pledge, which is now going into its third year. On an overcast and dreary Sunday morning, seven volunteers worked tirelessly to fill fourteen bags of trash and leave the area much cleaner than it was before. We parked our cars at Greenhouse Park, many of us driving various Subaru models, and walked the stretch of road, poking and picking up the pieces of litter that had been tossed or blown onto the route by the wind.
It may only be one small step to creating a stronger community but we want to do our part in preserving what we have. Together we can help restore the Greater Johnstown area and make this area a place that we are truly proud to live.
