Spangler Subaru Partners with Operation Warm
The Johnstown winter may not be as cold, snowy, or harsh as it once was. Changing climate conditions has resulted in far less precipitation coating the area in recent years, and more days above freezing has led to snow accumulations melting much quicker than in the past. However, the area still feels glacial at times when old man winter blows his bone chilling breath through every street and around every corner in the city. Some days can still linger in the single digits, and exposed skin at this temperature will be frostbitten in minutes and can be fatal in a short time.
While the city is busy at rebuilding, we are still a long way off from prosperity. We recognize the challenges local families face, and we want to do our part to make a difference in their lives, even if it is just through small acts of kindness.
In February, we partnered with Operation Warm and the Greater Johnstown Community YMCA to deliver brand new coats and shoes to 144 local children in need. The YMCA, which graciously donated space and volunteers, tracked down those in need as, together, we hosted an on-site gifting event. We packed up a brand new 2024 Subaru Ascent with all the donations (the cargo space in the Ascent is quite impressive) and headed downtown. Here, the children were guided by Spangler Subaru employees where they were first measured, and then given time to shop for the colors and styles that suited them best. This experience will give the children the confidence that they can safely rely on having proper and reliable attire when they need it most. Throughout this winter, and maybe even into next winter, they will carry warmth with them.
